At the beginning, participants shared their opinions about the term "Employee Recognition", all agreed that employee recognition can be through financial compensation such as bonuses, incentive compensation and non-financial recognition such as commendation.

Why is employee recognition important?

Staffs, in general, have a desire to be recognized, which helps to encourage themselves to grow, strive and develop more. In addition, recognizing the results of groups also helps these groups become more connected and create more value. Besides, recognition and reward also contribute to the employer branding, which affects on attracting and retaining talent in long time.

The event became more exciting with sharing of experience and best practices in recognizing employees from Human Resources professionals attended.

Before recognizing, Companies need to build a capacity framework for all levels and disseminate it to all departments and staffs (as a base for assessing the recognition as well as helping employees recognize their potential elements). However, it is worth noting that Recognition programs or policies must be fair and appropriate, in order to avoid unnecessary conflicts between the recognized staffs and the unrecognized ones. Moreover, HR Specialists have to understand the needs of the rewarded staffs, as well as determine the appropriate right time for recognizing to get best result.

At the end of the event, Mr. Ha Minh Giang shared three considerable factors when designing a recognition program for intellectual labors:
  • Autonomy: giving employees autonomy at work, thus promoting the cohesion between them.
  • Mastery: intellectual labors desire to be recognized through opportunities to learn and grow in their major, rather than to be recognized through financial recognition.
  • Purpose: employees would like to recognize their work in various aspects, which not only contributes to business results, but also fulfills the business's mission to society
