Why do we care about HR trends?

At the seminar, Ms. Le Thi Thanh Tuyen explained this problem as follows:

The annual HR trend is not only concerned with the human resources force but also the cross-cutting force, i.e. the force in the top management of the company And there are 2 tendencies:

+ Firstly, if businesses are not proactive, do not look at the right HR roles, they must also pay great attention to HR trends to go back and lead their businesses to accompany and implement the strategy.

+ Second, if leaders understand the role of human resources as a strategic role, they need to pay more attention to HR trends, they need to be more proactive to navigate leadership, navigate culture and how their employees can do the role of leading the culture so that they can support their work strategy execution.

The context of Vietnam's human resources profession 2023

Sharing about the HR career context of Vietnam 2023, Mr. Nguyen Chi Kien described through the phrase "Expect the unexpected" – Expect all the things that you never expected". This comes from many general trends of the current market situation and we will have to solve problems that we have never thought about or never deepened.

From the perspective of a business executive, when discussing human resources or marketing issues, Ms. Dinh Mong Kha observes that they all share a common aspect: one side represents the external customers, while the other side represents the internal audience, viewing colleagues and employees within the company as customers. This perspective prompts HR professionals to effectively change their mindset and redefine their profession. Through this lens, we can effectively convey the right values and messages to the organization and build a culture. In this era, where many talented individuals are "let go" by large companies, the idea of "paying more to attract talent" may not necessarily be the best approach, as we don't know if that talent will stay with us in the long run. In principle, if they come to us for money, they will also leave for money. If they come to us based on the values they believe in our company, they will also stay with us for those values. This is the opportunity for HR professionals to create those values, to ensure that our employees and colleagues (our internal customers) understand and embrace the values created by the company. If the company can effectively convey its set of values, even without the budget to attract previous talents, it can still achieve success. When talents are in an environment where they truly feel satisfied, where they can be themselves, contribute, and fully enjoy their values, they will also spread messages to attract talents like them to our organization. At that point, the cost of recruitment and talent attraction will significantly decrease, and that is a long-term solution. To achieve this, the HR department must demonstrate this understanding to higher-level leadership.

Market trends in the HR industry in 2023

During a panel discussion, speakers discussed the market trends in the HR industry from 2023 onwards:

  • Companies will focus on internal recruitment rather than rushing to hire externally, emphasizing the transition of roles within the organization.
  • To attract high-capacity talent in the market, organizations will need to offer competitive compensation. Salary ranges for these positions are expected to increase by 15% to 35%, with rare positions seeing a rise of up to 45%.

Overall, companies are inclined to invest in training and enhancing the internal capabilities of their workforce, facilitating the transition of employees within the organization. If external hiring is necessary for hard-to-fill positions, organizations will have to accept potential candidates as it is challenging to find a perfect match in terms of skills.

  • HR leaders and experts need to consider essential changes to elevate the competence of their employees. This includes analyzing data and indicators within the organization and the workforce to continue improvement.
  • Understanding how the organization's business operations relate to the human resources aspect is crucial in determining the values generated and providing core solutions.
  • The focus should be on transforming the system from delivering outputs to achieving outcomes. This requires a clear business direction to envision the necessary shifts.
  • Determining an appropriate compensation and rewards system.
  • Balancing the final performance while considering the interests of both the employer and the employees.
  • Understanding the business model of the company to strategically allocate resources to the key departments.
  • Setting specific development pathways for employees.

Although the panel discussion was conducted online, it received numerous questions and positive feedback from the audience, including HR experts, HR managers, and business leaders. The speakers provided insightful responses and valuable insights to assist organizations in choosing suitable solutions for their respective contexts.

Additionally, the discussion also provided information from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the world's largest and most influential organization for HR professionals, with over 300,000 members from 165 countries. SHRM offers two prestigious certifications for HR professionals: the SHRM-CP (SHRM-Certified Professional) and SHRM-SCP (SHRM-Senior Certified Professional). In Vietnam, the PACE School of HR Management (a member of PACE Institute of Management) is the sole representative of SHRM and offers the International Human Resource Management (IHRM) training program. This program aims to equip HR professionals in Vietnam with the SHRM-CP/SCP certifications, as well as the latest concepts, tools, and internationally-aligned HR management practices.
